Bendigo's Solar Experts

Australia, The Solar Country

Solar is everywhere in Australia because the sunlight is abundant and the support is real: a Solar Victoria rebate, a matching interest-free loan, and federal certificates that come off the price. Here is how it works in Bendigo.

How solar panels make electricity

A panel is made up of individual cells cut from silicon. When sunlight hits a cell it generates a direct current. An inverter converts that into the power your home and appliances run on, and whatever you are not using at that moment either charges a battery or goes out to the grid.

Panels do not store anything, which is the most common misunderstanding we hear. If you want power from your roof after dark, you need a battery.

Solar hot water and heat pumps

Sunlight can also be used as heat rather than electricity. Solar hot water collectors capture the sun's heat directly to heat your water. A heat pump does a similar job electrically, and it pairs well with a solar system because it can run through the middle of the day on your own generation. We stock heat pump hot water from Aquatech, Haier and Reclaim.

Why solar suits central Victoria

Bendigo gets good sun and most homes here have plenty of unshaded roof to work with. Local organisations have gone the same way at a larger scale, including the 99kW array we installed at the Bendigo Showgrounds and 100kW at Bendigo Foodshare. For a house the logic is the same, just smaller: generate through the day, use what you can, and store the rest if a battery stacks up.

What support is actually available

Residential solar in Australia does not work through tax incentives. There are three real mechanisms:

  • The Solar Victoria solar panel (PV) rebate. Up to 50% of the purchase cost, to a maximum of $1,400, calculated after other discounts including certificates. Combined household taxable income of all owners needs to be under $150,000 a year, the property must be worth under $3 million, and the address must not have had a solar system installed in the last 10 years. Rebates are released in capped monthly batches.
  • An interest-free loan. It matches the rebate amount, up to $1,400, repaid monthly over 4 years. Since 1 May 2026 you have to select the loan when you apply.
  • Federal small-scale technology certificates. These reduce the purchase price upfront rather than arriving later as a payment. For systems installed in 2026 the deeming period is 5 years, dropping by a year annually until the scheme ends in 2030, so an earlier install earns more certificates.

Worth checking if you looked into this a while back: the $150,000 income cap came down from $210,000 on 1 July 2026.

What solar does to your power bill

Every household is different, so we will not put a saving figure in a blog post. What we will do is size your system from your last 12 months of electricity bills, so the numbers in your quote match how your home actually uses power. No guesswork and no overselling. Supply charges stay on your bill either way, so solar reduces what you buy rather than removing the bill.
