Hyundai Solar Panels: What to Know

Hyundai solar panels are no longer a current option for Australian homes. Hyundai Energy Solutions has effectively exited the residential solar panel market, and Hyundai was a panel manufacturer rather than an installer.

Why we are not quoting Hyundai panels

This post used to recommend Hyundai panels on the strength of their price, their efficiency and their warranty. Those figures came from third-party reviews we can no longer stand behind, and the panels are no longer a realistic choice for a new home system in Bendigo, so we have taken them out rather than leave numbers up that we cannot verify. If a quote you are comparing still lists Hyundai, it is worth asking the retailer where the stock is coming from and who would handle a warranty claim.

The useful part of the original post was never really about Hyundai. It was about what makes a panel worth buying, so here is that, without the brand attached.

What to look for in a solar panel

Efficiency

Efficiency is how much of the sunlight hitting the panel becomes electricity. A more efficient panel produces more from the same area, which matters most when your usable roof space is limited. If you have plenty of roof to work with, a slightly less efficient panel can still be the better value.

Durability

A panel spends its whole life outdoors in Bendigo sun, dust and hail. Look at the frame, the glass and the seals, and at how the manufacturer actually handles a claim. Check that the panel is on the Clean Energy Council approved product list, because that is the list Australian installers work from.

Warranties

There are two of them and they are not the same thing. The product warranty covers the panel itself against manufacturing faults. The performance warranty covers output, and states how much of the original rating the panel should still be producing at the end of the term. Compare both, and check who you would deal with if something went wrong.

Appearance

Frames and backsheets come in different finishes, and on a street-facing roof that makes a real difference. All-black panels are the usual pick when looks matter.

Performance in heat

Every panel gives up a little output as it gets hotter, and a Bendigo roof in summer gets very hot. Manufacturers publish a temperature coefficient for exactly this. The smaller that figure, the less output the panel loses on a hot afternoon. It is one of the more useful lines on a datasheet and one of the least talked about in a sales pitch.

What we install around Bendigo

Our current range is high-efficiency 470 to 490 watt panels from Jinko, JA Solar, TW Solar and Aiko, including all-black options that sit cleanly on the roof. Fewer, more powerful panels means we can get more out of the roof space you have.

You can see the whole range on our solar panels page. If you would rather have a system sized from your own bills than a generic package, get in touch and we will come and have a look.
